RAMS HEAD TABLE SNUFF MULL. Highly important and unique EDINBURGH RAMS HEAD SNUFF MULL .Decorated with the HONOURS OF SCOTLAND,(THE SCOTTISH CROWN JEWELS). The black faced rams head mounted with a silver gilt hinged lidded snuff and cheroot box bearing the silver hallmarks for Edinburgh 1871/1872 and the registered makers mark of GEORGE.M.EWEN OF 10 North Saint

Mounted on the lid a gilt fringed and tassled cushion supporting the silver gilt Sword Sceptre and Crown of Scotland ,faithfully copying the original .The Crown decorated engraved and set with tay river pearls ,foil backed garnets alternated with foil backed citrines surmounted by an enamelled sphere and cross with central white sapphire.The horn terminals in the form of thistles set with foil backed faceted citrine. In the forehead radiating from a central mount six suspension chains terminating in traditional snuff taking implements. The whole on three silver gilt and ivory castors.
Permission to use the symbol of the Honours of Scotland is seldom given even today. In the opinion of the various bodies in Scotland expert in this area this mull has has associations with a high ranking Scottish institution The Order of the Thistle and the Royal Company of Archers (Royal bodyguard for Scotland )are likely candidates and subject of ongoing research.
